Six illustrations for the 'Scales' section of Electricity and Other Dreams, which is a book of short stories by Micah Dean Hicks, published by New American Press, and should be out in the spring.

All done by hand with acrylic on paper, scanned in and edited in Photoshop.

Aww the priest dog is adorable. And I like the crow (is it a crow?) that's trailing ink/paint/something.

Yep, it's a crow... and it's trailing oil. :)

These are all awesome! Just curious, why do you use acrylic? The natural choice for me would be ink. I wonder if I'm missing out.

Mostly because I currently don't have any ink on hand. I do like how acrylic can be quite flexible, though - it can be made to behave loosely, like watercolours... or as more opaque medium, depending on what you need.

Ah, I see! Any thoughts on acrylic vs gouache, then? I don't have my acrylics with me but there is gouache. I always get this urge of using people's mediums when I see art that I particularly like :D

I don't have much experience with gouache, I'm afraid! :) Not something I've really come across much - or ever used - though of course I've heard of it. So I really can't comment on its comparison with acrylic... sorry!

Ah ok, no problem! I don't even know what I'm doing here asking, instead of just trying it myself :D My brain...works in mysterious ways.

Lobster! :D Man these are great. Looks like that pidgeon just exploded out of a dude he didn't like. And the vicar looks on, wondering what the world is coming to.

He's covered in oil. He's like a crazy bird phoenix. I believe he is later on fire, in the story. But I haven't read it yet, just the summaries!

The dog in a priest outfit is among my favourite, for sure. :D SACRILICIOUS!
