A traditional painting I made yesterday for my beloved (he likes square rigs very much!).
The ship pictured is (nominally) the Myrmidon, a large 1000 ton galleon led by the pirate Captain Dupree. She's based loosely around the English Resolution of 1650, who was slightly larger (1500 tons ish) and is unusual in that she has just two sails on the main and foremasts.
Painting stormy seas is terribly fun. :3
Canvas board is 12" by 16". Painted in acrylic and emulsion, except for the rigging which was done in black fineliner. About eight hours work.
Waves are so much fun! I had trouble with them initially, and then I remembered a tip Bob Ross gave on one of his shows... and suddenly, they all seemed to come together! Bob Ross ftw!
Thank you! SO many ropes and things on a square rig... it gets complicated. And I was so nervous drawing them in in fineliner! (I chickened out of painting them by hand... probably a good thing).
