A little while ago I did a whole host of illustrations for the upcoming book, Electricity and Other Dreams, by Micah Dean Hicks. Micah's a good friend as well as a work colleague, so of course I was delighted to work with him on his first published volume. And recently, that book went to the printers, and I have received in the mail three advance release copies! Hurrah!
Here they are: i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s…
I did the cover design as well as little internal illustrations attached to each short story. Looking awesome, huh? This was particularly exciting since this was also my first opportunity to actually read it. (I'd received summaries, but not the actual stories, for my art briefs.)
So I've been reading it over the last few days... and I shall be honest. I hoped they would be good. I hoped they would be entertaining. But I was absolutely unprepared for them being brilliant.
They're spooky, intriguing, wonderfully written little portions of bizarre, and I find myself entirely inspired by several of them, wanting to further explore these alien little worlds. I want to draw more art! I cannot tell you what a privilege it is to have my work attached to such a book. I highly recommend buying yourself a copy, if you like little strange modern mythology stories that will make you laugh, and pause, and feel oddly alive... the story of Where the Electrician Went made my heart sing in a way I can't quite explain.
The book is currently listed on Barnes and Noble: www.barnesandnoble.com/w/elect…
From what I understand, the actual release of the full book to the general public isn't until September, but Barnes and Noble has it listed anyway. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am enjoying it! <3
